Our Analysis & Ratings

Our top inflatable kayak for 2024 is the Razor Kayaks X2 High-Pressure Kayak. It's a Tech-Stitch kayak with strong sides and a hard floor, so much so that it doesn't even seem like an inflatable kayak. There is enough storage to bring everything you need while you're out on the lake and it is simple and comfortable to paddle with friends for hours at a time.

Performance - The Tech-Stitch design of the X2 gives it the appearance and feel of a hard-shell kayak. It effortlessly glides through the water and tracks very well in a straight line thanks to its longer, thinner design. We found it to be quite efficient to paddle because of the smoothness of the PVC outer hull's surface, which causes very little friction against the water.

Construction - The Razor X2's PVC structure, which includes two seats, two footrests and a detachable skeg, is incredibly tough. It also includes a hard plastic-moulded bow and stern, which enables better cut-through in the water. The highly engineered Tech-Stitch construction provides a very firm surface, making it both more efficient to paddle and more comfortable.

Setup/Pack down - The seats and footrests are simple to clip and thread onto their D-rings, and the three Halkey-Roberts valves enable speedy inflation. Drying is made simple by the smooth PVC surfaces and deflation is accomplished by simply depressing the valves to release the air. It does need to be folded in a specific way, like with many inflatable kayaks, but the bag is fairly roomy and big, so it's not too tough to fit back in.

Portability - The X2 and other gear, including paddles, a pump and life jackets, are all conveniently carried on your back. If you're on flat terrain, the backpack also includes wheels to wheel around. Although it comes in a bigger packed size than some of the more affordable kayaks on our list, it is still quite portable and light for its quality.

Comfort - The footrests are simple to adjust and offer a solid surface to push against, while the chairs are robust and offer excellent support. The drop-stitch floor's firmness means that more of your paddling energy goes into moving the kayak along rather than sinking into a spongy floor, making the paddling experience itself more comfortable. We found there was ample room for two people to stretch out their legs without making the kayak too long to handle, and one of our testers was 6’4”.

Overall - The X2 High-Pressure is our best 2-person inflatable kayak in Australia because of its outstanding performance. A kayak that is so comfortable, simple to set up and pack away and reasonably priced is hard to beat.
